Deep Portage Interpretive Center:
North approximately 30 minutes. Open daily year round. Hours Monday-Saturday 8:30 am -
4:30 pm. Sunday noon - 4:00 pm. An environmental education site with a naturalist to
assist you. A museum, miles of nature trails, and a 10,000 square foot display of over
3,000 wildflower plants, grasses, trees, and shrubs. Many educational activities
available.Trillium Lake Wildflower Farm:
Northwest less than 2 hours. Experience walking across the headwaters of the Great
Mississippi River on stepping stones. This area also has one of the largest stands of
virgin timber in the state. Both regular and tandem bicycles can be rented on the site.
Badoura State Forest Nursery:
Northwest approximately 1 hour. Hours 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. Seasonal self guided tours.
September and October guided tours by appointment. (218) 652-2385. A sculptured forest
garden. Gather seasonal berries and during September and October gather nuts, pine cones
and leaves.
This Old Farm Antique Museum and Old Time Village - Plus the
Original Depot From Disney Movie "Iron Will":
Southeast approximately 1 hour. Open Saturday to Sunday 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Appointment
only after Labor Day. (218) 764-2915. See original one room school house, authentic log
house, old saloon with player piano, antique filing station with gas pumps, old gas
engines, and farm machinery plus thousands of irreplaceable antiques.
Croft Mine Historical Park:
Southeast approximately 45 minutes. Hours 10:00 am to 6 pm daily. Appointment only after
Labor Day. (218) 546-5466. A rerouted mine shaft simulation, visiting "miners"
can ride the old shaft cage into the Croft Mine's depth with sounds of ore drills
reverberating along her tunnel walls. This is a unique underground experience.
Mille Lacs Indian Museum: Southeast approximately 1
hour. Open year round Monday to Saturday 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. Indian history, traditions,
and events through the eyes of the Ojibwe.
